Asakusa

Traditional Tokyo with Crowds

Historic / Touristy🔴 High crowds

Asakusa is the most tourist-dense neighborhood in Tokyo but earns it. Senso-ji is impressive but not worth a day in our opinions. If you’re going we recommend early, before 8am for fewer crowds at the temple. Stay for breakfast at one of the local spots. By 10am it becomes a different place entirely. The area around Kappabashi Kitchen Street (a short walk) is worth adding - a long street of professional kitchen supply stores with beautiful ceramics and knives at trade prices.

Stay here if

You want to be close to Senso-ji, Kappabashi street, and don't mind being surrounded by tourists during the day.

Skip It If

You've already done or are going to Kyoto's temples - Asakusa will feel familiar (but worse).
