Gotokuji
Lucky Cat Shrine
Home of the famous waving cat (maneki-neko) shrine. The neighborhood itself is bustling and local - tourists come for the shrine but mostly don't explore the surrounding streets, which are great. Combine with Shimokitazawa or Kichijoji as a half-day add-on.
Stay here if
You want a kitschy, off-the-beaten-path shrine stop in a local neighborhood.
Skip It If
You're maxed out on shrines. Though this one is different enough to be worth it.
