Ueno

Museums, Markets, and Cherry Blossoms

Cultural / Busy🔴 High crowds

Ueno is home to some incredible Tokyo museums. Ueno Park is one of the most famous cherry blossom spots in Japan, which means it's stunning in late March and also absolutely packed. Ameyoko market runs along the train tracks - a dense outdoor market selling everything from fresh seafood to sneakers, one of the more atmospheric places to wander in the city. Ueno makes more sense as a trip from your base than as a place to stay.

Stay here if

You want easy access to Tokyo's best museums and Ueno Park, and don't mind a more traditional tourist-facing area.

Skip It If

Museums don't interest you and you're not there for cherry blossom season - there's less reason to make the trip.
