About

Akihabara is a district in Chiyoda known as Tokyo's center for electronics, anime, manga, and gaming culture. The area became an electronics hub in the post-war period and later evolved into the focal point of otaku culture. It contains multi-story electronics stores, anime goods retailers, arcades, and maid cafes across several blocks.

Time Needed

1-2 hours for a general visit. Serious shoppers or collectors will need longer.

Best Time To Go

Afternoons on weekdays when the main street is quieter. On Sundays the central street closes to traffic and becomes a pedestrian zone.

Getting There

Akihabara Station on the Yamanote or Sobu lines, Electric Town exit.

Tips

The main street stores are the most expensive. Side streets and the upper floors of multi-story buildings tend to have better prices and more interesting stock.
