Our Take

Safe and interesting to walk through — but there's not much to actually do

Go regardless if...

You want to understand the full spectrum of Shinjuku at night

More Info

About

Kabukicho is an entertainment and red-light district in Shinjuku, one of the largest entertainment districts in Asia. It contains hundreds of bars, nightclubs, karaoke venues, host clubs, and restaurants across a dense grid of streets. The area is known for its neon signage and operates largely through the night.

Time Needed

Depends entirely on what you're there for. A walk through to see the atmosphere takes 20 minutes.

Best Time To Go

Late evening from 10pm onward when the area is fully active. Daytime visits are unremarkable.

Getting There

Shinjuku Station east exit, 5 minute walk.

Tips

Tourist-targeted touts will approach you, especially near the main boulevard. A firm no and keeping walking is all it takes. The area is safe but being pulled into a bar by a tout can result in inflated bills.
