🐡Toyosu Fish Market

Worth it?

Our Take

The tuna auction is extraordinary but requires booking months ahead. Without it, it's just a fish market.

More Info

About

Toyosu Market is Tokyo's central wholesale fish and produce market, which replaced Tsukiji as the main market in 2018. It is one of the largest wholesale seafood markets in the world and handles a significant portion of Japan's seafood trade. Public viewing areas allow visitors to observe the market operations including the famous tuna auctions, which require advance registration.

Time Needed

2-3 hours if doing the full visit with auction viewing. 60-90 minutes for the market and restaurants only.

Best Time To Go

Early morning if you have registered for the tuna auction viewing. The market itself is most active from 5am onward.

Getting There

Shijo-mae Station on the Yurikamome line, directly connected to the market buildings.

Tips

Tuna auction spots must be registered online months in advance and spots are very limited. The restaurants inside the market building are good and significantly less crowded than equivalent options at Tsukiji.
